Navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment and symptoms is not easy. Cancer companion equips customers to do so with control, confidence and care.
We’re working in partnership with Osara Health and Teladoc Health to bring this support to our customers.
Knowing the importance of this support service, we are now pleased to say that we have extended eligibility for access to these services to a further 50,000 New Zealanders who have an inforce trauma, life cover or income protection cover with us.

Comprised of 3 components, Cancer companion complements existing treatment plans through a holistic, evidence-based approach1, giving customers options to formulate a lifestyle response through health coaching and education, access to world-leading cancer specialists for a second medical opinion and be supported through one-on-one counselling.

Meet Vaughan.
In 2023, Vaughan was rushed to hospital with a bladder infection which turned out to be stage-4 cancer. His wife Leigh had also recently been diagnosed with throat lymphoma for the 2nd time. It was a hard year for them both.
Having an eligible inforce trauma cover gave them access to Cancer companion and the right support when they needed it most.

Cancer Coach helps customers take control of their health and lifestyle response, offering support via a dedicated Osara Health Coach, plus a range of educational resources and techniques that are personalised to them.
Second Medical Opinion gives customers confidence by connecting them to a global network of world-leading cancer specialists.
Mental Health Support gives care and attention to customers’ wellbeing with one-on-one therapy sessions.

And now our customers can also access Cancer Caregivers from Osara Health; an additional service designed to support those who are caring for someone with a cancer diagnosis, giving them the tools and resources to feel empowered to ensure everyone’s needs are met.

If your customer is eligible to submit a claim with Fidelity Life relating to a cancer diagnosis with Fidelity Life:
If your customer experiences a cancer diagnosis and has an eligible policy with Fidelity Life, either you or the customer can contact our claims team on 0800 88 22 88 or email our Claims team (claims@fidelitylife.co.nz) to log the diagnosis with us.
STEP 1. The claims team will send an email with an online enrolment link to be completed. If you are contacting us on behalf of the customer, it is important that you forward that email onto the customer, so they can fill in their contact details and agree to the privacy terms and conditions.
STEP 2. The customer’s name and contact information will then be shared with Osara Health. Should the customer wish to access the Teladoc Health services, Osara Health will share the customer’s information with them.
STEP 3. Osara Health will contact the customer at a time they choose, to discuss Cancer companion in more detail. The customer can decide what’s right for them and what services they want to participate in.
If your customer is not eligible to submit a claim with Fidelity Life relating to a cancer diagnosis:
Your customer may be experiencing a cancer diagnosis or may be supporting a loved one through a diagnosis, and may not be eligible to submit a claim under their Fidelity Life policy.
For example, they may want to access Cancer Caregivers to support their loved one with cancer, or they may hold a Life cover with Fidelity Life which does not enable them to make a claim.
They may still be eligible to access Cancer companion and Cancer Caregivers.
- If they have provided consent for you to enrol them for the Cancer companion or Cancer Caregivers service, you can directly refer them, by clicking on the following link.

Cancer companion is available to Fidelity Life customers who have an inforce life, trauma or income protection cover and a cancer diagnosis.
Cancer companion is not available for Fidelity Life Group and Westpac insurance policies or any other cover types, e.g.permanent disability cover or key person covers.
Customers are required to be:
- 18+ to use the ‘Cancer Coach’ and ‘Mental Health Support’ services.
- Living in NZ to use the ‘Mental Health Support’ services.

Osara Health and Teladoc Health are experts in the fields of digital oncology and telehealth. They’re a trusted pair of hands helping us deliver this to you, helping to empower your cancer journey.

Osara Health will hold customers’ information, in line with their privacy policy. Customers will be asked to read and agree to the Osara Health privacy policy as part of the enrolment process. Should they wish to access the Teladoc Health services, Osara Health will share this information with them.

Cancer companion gives customers the choice to select up to three support options: Cancer Coach, Second Medical Opinion and Mental Health Support. Once your customer has enrolled, Osara Health will call them and explain each part in more detail. Your customer can decide which parts are right for them.
